Our Mission

Lyon Den Learning is a resource designed to provide fun, engaging, and hands-on learning experiences that cultivate positive inquiry, critical thinking, as well as foster growth and development in young children.

5 Domains of School Readiness (As defined by the U.S. Dept. of Ed)

  1. Language and literacy development
  2. Cognition and general knowledge 
  3. Approaches toward learning
  4. Physical well-being and motor development
  5. Social and emotional development 

What this means:

1. Speaking and listening (participating in conversations, asking/answering questions, describing things, adding details, speaking audibly/clearly and in complete sentence structures).  Emergent writing (developmentally appropriate drawings, able to dictate stories/messages and beginning letter formations). Foundational emergent reading skills (concepts of print, phonemic awareness and phonics). 

2. Asking questions, increased attention span, problem solving, matching, comparing, sorting and organizing, understanding cause and effect.  

3. Thinking skills, creativity and innovation. Communication/social/self-management skills, organization, and reflection. 

4. Wellness, rest, exercise, health and nutrition. Self-help skills-feeding, dressing, toilet training, washing hands etc. Fine (small) and gross (large) motor skills- muscle control, balance and coordination.

5. Participate/engage in learning, develop friendships with peers and healthy relationships with teachers, able to express feelings and regulate emotions, create positive self-identity (like oneself/build confidence) and developing a working memory. 

Lyon Den Learning’s Objective:

To provide at-home academic experiences that target any and all of the following: Cognition, Social & Emotional Development, Physical Development and Health, Early Communication & Literacy, Creative Arts, Mathematics, Science, & Social Studies. 

Class sessions can be designed to reinforce skills your children are currently working on as well as in order to scaffold new knowledge. 

As each child’s needs are uniquely their own all curriculum will be curated following a consultation. Along with suggested materials for meeting the learning goals that are set.
